Following Affirmed conquest of the Triple Crown there were multiple times (14) that horses came to the Belmont Stakes with a chance to win the Triple Crown. Justify is the 15th. In that period only American Pharoah won all three races. In that same period twice on three consecutive years horses came to the Belmont with a chance to win the Triple Crown. It first happened in 1997-99 when Silver Charm, Real Quiet and Charismatic respectively tried the feat and failed. Three years later from 2002 to 2004 the same occurred with War Emblem, Funny Cide and Smarty Jones trying, but, also, failing. It was in the 2004 race when Belmont Park hit its record attendance at 120,139. That year Birdstone ridden by Edgar Prado and trained by Nick Zito won it.
