JOCKEY CLUB ROUNDTABLE CONFERENCE TO BE HELD SUNDAY
08-07-2012 --
The Jockey Club will host its 60th Annual Round Table Conference on Sunday, August 12, 2012 at the Gideon Putnam Resort and Conference Center in Saratoga Springs, New York. The conference will be webcast on the Jockey Club website. Last year’s Conference was highlighted by the report on the study by the McKinsey & Co. which focused on new ways to “Drive Sustainable Growth for Thoroughbred Racing and Breeding.” A number of good recommendations were promulgated. The question for this year’s Roundtable is, “how is the implementation going?”
One approach was a fan education imitative labeled America’ Best Racing. It was unveiled at Pimilico in 2012 as Racing 101 Fan Hub. "The vital need to attract new fans to our sport was quickly and concretely identified in the comprehensive economic study we commissioned in 2011," said James L. Gagliano, president and chief operating officer of the Jockey Club.” Racing 101 will begin its second year of operation this summer at Saratoga. Hopefully, the Roundtable will have optimistic data on how this imitative has helped bring the fans back to our sport.
As second initiative was the use of race-day medications. The story of controversy that followed with in the industry was depressing and exciting---exciting because of all the dialogue to find a common ground, yet depressing to see the subtle sabotage. Hopefully, good news will come forward at this year’s Roundtable.
ThoroFan will report on the results of the Roundtable on this site and in our weekly newsletter, next week.
