Parting Glass Racing to Retire Grade II Stakes Winner, Dave
Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – Parting Glass Racing has retired their local hero Grade II Stakes Winner, Dave, effective immediately due to a lingering injury from which he was unable to recover.
Dave’s racing career was rooted in his modest beginnings at Little Farm in Kinderhook New York, after being bred by the late, great Joe Gerrity. Dave was special to Mr. Gerrity, earning a mention in one of his obituaries that appeared after his death in October 2005, ‘Just this August his 4-Year-Old homebred Dave made headlines with the unusual feat of winning twice in a period of four days at Saratoga Racetrack, culminating in the $113,000 West Point Handicap.’
Parting Glass Racing was lucky to be able to purchase Dave from the Gerrity estate in November 2005. Dave gave the partnership years of excitement, with highlights that included his GR 2 Red Smith Handicap win, the Kingston Handicap win, as well as the nail biter win in the Ashley T Cole, multiple top-three finishes, and being named the New York Thoroughbred Breeders’ Male Turf Champion of 2007. Dave finished his career with a record of 39 starts, (7) wins, (11) 2nds, (3) 3rds, and earnings of $575,332 and a lifetime high Beyer of 100. Dave’s many successes were documented by the Bloodhorse Magazine and Thoroughbred Times, and celebrated by both Parting Glass Racing and Dave fans nationwide.
In addition to his racing achievements, Dave won over everyone with his heart of gold and relentless dedication to his training. In fact, according to partnership manager Tom Gallo, retiring Dave has been “one of the most difficult and disappointing decisions I’ve had to make, but it is the right decision and honors the grit and determination he’s shown over the years.” According to Tom Gallo, “It is the least we can do for our true champion.”
Dave will be retired at Gallo’s Blue Stone Farm and his retirement will be toasted at the monthly Parting Glass Racing meeting on Thursday, February 26th at the Parting Glass Pub just before the showing of the Kentucky Derby documentary, “The First Saturday in May.”
Parting Glass Racing was founded by Tom Gallo and Joan Desadora (owner of The Parting Glass Pub) in 2001. With more than 300 members, Parting Glass Racing, LLC is the umbrella organization managing multiple partnerships and horses. A member meeting is held every month at the Parting Glass Pub with guest speakers from the racing industry. The next meeting is scheduled for February 26, 2009 at 7 p.m. |
