IN THE HISTORY OF THE FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH STAKES (GII) HOW MANY TIMES WAS IT WON BY A DISQUALIFICATION?
2/26/2021

The Fountain of Youth Stakes (GII) was first run in 1945. It is a race for 3-year-olds run at Gulfstream Park. Since its beginning it has been run 72 times. It was not run in 1946, 1948 and 1952. However, during those 72 years it was won by 77 horses. The popularity of the race had it run in two division five times. In 1947 it was won by Tight Squeeze and Atomic Power.  In 1953 it was won by Ram O’ War and Tribe. In 1983 it was won by Highland Park and Copelan. In 1986 it was won by Ensign Rhythm and Mr. Prince Charming. The last time it was run in two divisions was in 1993 and was won by Dehere and Storm Tower. Twice in the race’s history the winning horse was disqualified. In 2015 Upstart impeded Isaknockout in the stretch and was disqualified placing Isaknockout (no pun intended) in the Winners Circle. Nine years earlier in 2006 Corinthian finished first but was disqualified to third for interference against both First Samurai and Flashy Bull. First Samurai benefited by the call and got his picture taken in the Winner’s Circle
