NAME THE FIRST FILLY/MARE TO WIN THE PACIFIC CLASSIC.
8/19/2021

The TVG Pacific Classic (GI) will be run this weekend for the 31st time. Many great horses have won it beginning with its inaugural running when Best Pal taking home the trophy. Julie Krone won it aboard Candy Ride in 2003 setting the existing track record. Other than horses two humans have a chance for the record book in this year’s race. Mike Smith is tied with Garrett Gomez with four wins each. Smith has a mount this year, (#4) Royal Ship (BRZ). A win by this five-year-old gelding puts Mike in the record books. Trainer Bob Baffert is tied with Bobby Frankel for the most wins with 6. He won it last year with Maximum Security. A repeat this year with Magic on Top (#6) puts him in the lead. Astoundingly, only one filly/mare has ever won the Pacific Classic. In 2015 the 5-year-old mare Beholder won it.
