THE BELMONT STAKES IS BEST KNOW FOR WHAT RACING RELATED PHRASE?
5/31/2019

The Belmont Stakes (GI) is the oldest of the three Triple Crown Races first run in 1867. It is run five weeks after the Kentucky Derby. The inaugural year the race was won by the filly Ruthless. Only two other fillies have won the Belmont Stakes (GI). They were Tanya (1905) and Rags to Riches (2007). The one mile and half distance is such a test for young, 3-year-old Thoroughbreds it is called the “The Test of Champions”. Some have tried to link it to the Kentucky Derby (Run for the Roses) by referring to the Belmont as the “Run for the Carnations”. Carnations are uses in the blank which drapes the winning horse.
