 The 2020 Kentucky Derby will be run this weekend amongst external protest for equality. Interesting the Derby allows horses of either sex run in the race. In the nearly a century and a half that the Kentucky Derby has been run only three fillies have won it. In 1915 Regret ridden by Johnny Notter was the first filly to win the Derby and did so in 2 minutes and 5.4 seconds. Sixty-five years later Genuine Risk ridden by Jacinto Vasquez won the race in 2 minutes and 2 seconds. A short eight years later Winning Colors ridden by Gary Stevens in a time of 2 minutes and 2.2 seconds. The current record in winning the 10 furlongs is 1 minute and 59.4 seconds held by Secretariat in 1973. The current speed record for fillies is held by Genuine Risk.
