WHAT HORSE A BREEDERS' CUP RACE AT THE LONGEST ODDS?
11/9/2018

The 1993 Breeders’ Cup Classic was billed as a showcase for the great Bertrando. But, it wasn’t to be. The French trained, Arcangues, took the show winning the race at odds of 133.60-1. Looking back at the connection maybe the outcome wasn’t such a surprise. The horse was trained by the top French trainer, Andre Fabre. He was ridden by soon to be Hall of Fame jockey Jerry Bailey (1995). Although Arcangues never ran on the dirt before his powerful closing kick was known to his connections. In the race he seemed out of competition until the field entered the stretch when Bailey asked Arcangues to run and run he did ---closing from seventh to first. Bertrando finished second.
