The Metropolitan Mile, known as the Met Mile, is one of the major races for older horse run in the country each year. The mile distance is perfect to balance speed with endurance. Both are needed to succeed. Winners are coined perfect breeding specimens to produce a full range of offsprings. Super studs like Tom Fool, Native Dancer, Buckpasser and Gulch won the Met Mile. Five horses have won the race twice ( Mad Hatter (1921-22), Equipose (1932-33), Stymie (1947-48), Forego (1976-77) and Gulch (1987-88). Only one horse has won the race three times (Devil Diver (1943-44-45). Frosted in 2016, set the stakes record (1:32.73) while winning the Metropolitan Handicap in a "dazzling performance" and followed up with a win in the Whitney Handicap. He, also, holds the record for the largest winning margin in the Met Mile (14 1/4 lengths).
