WHAT HORSE HOLDS THE RECORD FOR 1 3/8 MILE IN THE UNITED NATIONS STAKES?
6/29/2018

The United Nations Stakes race from Monmouth Park is a premier turf race to start the summer racing season off. This year the race drew nine horses and some of the best jockeys and trainers in the country. Unusual this year the horse that hold the track record a one and three-eighths miles (2:10.18), Bigger Picture, is entered to attempt back-to-back wins. Now a seven-year-old, Bigger Picture, returns for trainer Michael Maker; this time he has Jersey Joe Bravo in the irons. Bravo is currently tied with Jorge Velasquez and Jose Santos for the most wins with four. If Bravo guides Better Picture to the win not only will he take the lead in the number of wins in the United Nations Stakes (2012,2013,2015,2017), but Better Picture will join six horses that have won the race in two consecutive years --- Mongo (1962, 1963), Noble Dancer 1978, 1979), Manila (1986, 1987), Sandpit (1995, 1996), English Channel (2006, 2007), Presious (2008, 2009)
