WHAT HORSE HOLDS THE RECORD FOR THE FASTEST BUENA VISTA STAKES (II)?
2/22/2019

The Buena Vista Stakes (GII) is run at Santa Anita Park. It is a $200,000 race for fillies and mares going one mile on the turf course. It was first run in 1988 as a handicap race. That condition continued until 2012 when it became a weight-for-age stakes race for fillies and mares. In 1992 the nominations were so large that the race was run in two divisions. The two winners were Gold Fleece and Appealing Missy. The track record for the mile on the turf was 1:33.33 set by Pontchatrain in 2014. Pontchatrain was trained by Tom Proctor and ridden by Gary Stevens who holds the record of wins for the Buena Vista at five. No horse has won the race more than once. Bobby Frankel holds the record for training the most winners at five.
