WHAT HORSE HOLDS THE RECORD TIME IN WINNING THE PENNSYLVANIA DERBY?

 The Pennsylvania Derby (GI) with a million-dollar purse will be run for the 40th time this year. First run in 1979 when it was won by Woody Stephen’s trained Smarten. Was not run in 2006 because of track renovations. Three trainers hold the record for the most wins ---Woody Stephens, Nick Zito and Bob Baffert. Baffert has Improbable entered this year. With a win, Baffert will hold the record alone. The Penn Derby has been run as a grade one race for only the last two years. Baffert and jockey Mike Smith have won of the grade one races with West Coast and McKenzie, respectively. Baffert’s third win was in 2014 when Bayern ridden by Martin Garcia won the race and set the track record at 1:46.96. The previous record was held by To Honor and Serve, the 2011 winner, with a time of 1:47.34.
