WHAT HORSE IS THE ONLY HORSE TO WIN THE SAME BREEDERS’ CUP RACE THREE TIMES?

The Breeders’ Cup races first run in 1984 have been continuously run at rotating tracks for the past 36 years. Of the all the Breeders’ Cup races eight have been won more than once by the same horse. Notable duel winners of other Cup races include: Goldencents in the Dirt Mile (2013,2014), Groopie Doll in the Filly and Mare Sprint (2012,2013), Ouija Board in the Filly and Mare Turf (2004,2006) and Tiznow won in the Classic (2000,2001). Often considered the Breeders’ Cup race most aligned with European racing style is the Breeders’ Cup Mile (Turf). As might be expected horses from across the pond do well in this race. Surprisingly, the five real power horse winners of this race were all bred in the United States. Three of them raced in the United States: Lure (1992-93), Da Hoss (1996 and 1998) and Wise Dan (2012-13). Miesque (1987-88), mare, raced predominately in France. However, the real star of this Breeders’ Cup race was the Irish raced mare Goldikova who won the race three times (2008,09,10). She tried for her fourth win in 2011 where she finished 3rd won by the 30-1 Court Vision. Shortly thereafter she was retired.
