The Triple Bend Stakes began as the Lakes and Flowers Handicap in 1952 at Hollywood Park as a 7-furlong race. In 1955 Porterhouse won the race. The next year, 1956, the race was changed to a 6-furlong race. Porterhouse won it for a second time. In 1973 the race returned to its inaugural distance of 7-furlongs. In 1978 its name changed to the Triple Bend Handicap and continued to be run at Hollywood Park. In 2006 the Hollywood Park surface was converted to a synthetic track and stayed such until the track closed in 2013. The Triple Bend Handicap was moved to Santa Anita Park where it is run until today. Only one female horse has won the race.
