2/21/2020

The Buena Vista Stakes (GII) was first run in 1988. As a grade 2 race with a $200,000 purse it attacks sizeable fields. This year is not different. Twelve are entered. In the 31 year history of the race Gary Stevens won the race the most; accumulating five wins (1996, 2004, 2014, 2015 and 2016). The leading trainer of the race is Bobby Frankel with five wins (1994, 1997, 2003, 2008 and 2009). The track record for the Buena Vista is held by Pontchatrain at 1:33.33. Thirty times race traversed the turf course. Only once was it taken off because of the condition of the course. That year was 2017. The race was won by Wild At Heart. She was ridden by Fravian Prat who has mount in this year’s edition and trained by Richard Mandella who trains the favorite of the 2020 edition, Jolie Olimpica (BRZ).
