WHAT TRAINER ADVANCED THE MOST IN THE RANKS OF WINNING TRAINERS IN THE LAST FIVE YEARS?
1/8/2021

Jean Chodkowski provided the following answer to this question (partially edited).

“Looking over the top ten trainers for 2020, we were interested in any new names, so, we compared them with the standings for 2015. Bob Baffert was third in both 2020 and 2015 with a 29% and 21% win percentages respectively. Chad Brown was 4th in 2020 and 2nd in 2015 with a win percent dropping to 23% from 27%. Todd Pletcher led the standings in 2015 and fell to 7th in 2020, although his win percentage only dropped from 24% to 22%. Lastly, Marc Casse went from 4th to 6th between 2015 and 2020.

Of course, the 2020 numbers were influenced to a degree by the epidemic. Still, two names appeared in the top ten for 2020 that were not found in 2015. Mike Maker was ranked 11th in 2015 and 5th in 2020. That is not surprising since he too races all over the country. The biggest mover was Brad Cox, who only ranked 37th in 2015, but 2nd in 2020. That’s quite the climb in five years.
