WHAT TRAINER WON THE TRIPLE CROWN THE MOST TIMES?
In current years, trainer, Bob Baffert, is associated with the Triple Crown –winning all three races, Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes. However, his fame may have accrued because of his pension to lose the Belmont Stakes when it mattered. It started in 1997 when Silver Charm ran and lost. Then in 1998 Real Quiet ran and lost. He reversed fortune when Point Given won in 2001. Then back to losing when War Emblem lost. His last attempt yielded his first Triple Crown win with American Pharoah. This year he will try again with Justify. A win in two weeks will leave him with a Belmont Stakes win/loss of 6 (3-3). He will have, also, tied the Triple Crown record for wins by a trainer with two.
The trainer that holds the record for the most Triple Crown wins is Jim Fitzsimmons. He won two Triple Crowns. The first in 1930 when he trained Gallant Fox. He followed it in 1935 with Omaha.
