WHAT TWO GRADE ONE RACES AT WOODBINE ARE NAMED AFTER TWO HORSES WITH BLOODLINE CONNECTIONS?

Woodbine Racecourse in Toronto Ontario, Canada is Canada’s premier Thoroughbred racetracks. Throughout the year they host as many as seven grade one events with some the best horses across the globe competing. This weekend they host the Pattison Canadian International Stakes which the feature race in ThoroFan Handicappers’ Corner (GI). Also, included on the card is the Ricoh Woodbine Mile (GI). Of the other grade one events two have names that connect them in terms of bloodlines. One is the Natalma Stakes and the other is Northern Dancer Turf Stakes. The latter was named after Canada’s outstanding Thoroughbred, Northern Dancer. The former was named after his dam, Natalma. The Natalma Stakes will be run on this Sunday, September 19, 2021.
