Pattison Canadian International is one of the major turf races run each year at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto, Canada. It was first run in 1938 as restricted stakes for only “Canadian bred 3-year-old- horses” and was won by the 3-year-old Bunty Lawless. In 1939 the restriction for the race were altered to include “Canadian Owed” 3-year-old-horses. In 1940 the conditions were changed for a third time. That year they opened the race to 3-year-olds and up, but that had to be owned by a Canadian resident. These restriction worked for the next 13 years. In 1954 they eliminated the Canadian ownership and resident restriction opening the race totally. That allowed new Triple Crown winner, Secretariat, to run and win the race in 1973. He was ridden to victory by Eddie Maple (photo to right).
