12/20/2019
Mr. Prospector lived a long life, dying at 29 in 1999. His career on the track was less than spectacular and injury filled. However, his prowess in breeding was outstanding. His on-track notoriety came in 1976 with the filly It’s In the Air who won the Alabama Stakes that year. It concluded in 1998 with Dancethrudawn who won the Queens Plate, part of the Canadian Triple Crown. He owned the black-type races for those 23 years. In 1980 Mr. prospector’s offspring Eillo hit the big time by winning the Breeders’ Cup Sprint. Four years later Gulch won the Breeders’ Cup Sprint.
