WHO HOLDS THE TRACK RECORD FOR THE FLORIDA DERBY?
3/28/2018

Calumet Farms began its five wins of the Florida Derby with a win in the 1957 race with a win by Gen. Duke. The horse was ridden by Bill Hartack and trained by Horace A. Jones. Gen Duke set the track record and tied the world record for a 1 1/8 mile race (1:46.80). The following year Calumet won the race with Tim Tam who went on to win the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes. Ten years later they return to win the Florida Derby with Forward Pass who, also, went on to win the first two legs of the Triple Crown. Three years later they collected their fourth win with the little known Eastern Fleet. Perhaps their most famous win came seven years later when Alydar won and went on to run second in all three Triple Crown races behind Affirmed. What’s next for this meg-farm that is on the rebound?
