The Personal Ensign Stakes (GI) is a prestigious race for fillies and mares. This year’s edition is not an exception. It features Midnight Bisou seeking a repeat win with one difference. Jockey Mike Smith will not be on her back this year as he was last year. Safety rules restrict Mike Smith from coming in to ride her. This year she will have a new rider, Ricardo Santana. There is interesting factoid about the race. Although the race is restricted to fillies and mares---boys not allowed, only one female jockey has won the Personal Ensign (GI). In 1994 trainer Bill Mott entered Link River with Julie Krone up. The race gave Bill Mott is first and only win in the Personal Ensign (GI). It had the same impact on Julie Krone. She is the first and only female jockey to win the race.
