WHO WAS THE FIRST ONLY FEMALE JOCKEY TO WIN THE CATER HANDICAP?
4/5/2019

The Carter Handicap first run in 1895 has been contested for 124 years with 2019 marking its 125th running. The track for the current distance of seven furlongs is held by Artax (1:20.04). He did it in 1999 with jockey Jorge Chavez up. Three year earlier Julie Krone set a record that has yet to be matched. She rode Lite the Fuse in 1996 to be the first and only female jockey to win the Carter Handicap. Not sure how long we will need to wait to see another female jockey win the Carter. Not this year.
