WHY MIGHT THIS WEEKENDS LOS ALAMITOS FUTURITY BE CALLED THE BAFFERT FUTURITY?

The Los Alamitos Futurity was first run in 2014 after the closing of Hollywood Park when it was called the Hollywood Futurity. In the 38 years of the running of the “Futurity” a Bob Baffert trained horse has won the race 10 times. This year he has two horses entered, one of which is the Morning line favorite. By Saturday night it may be 11. What makes this record exceptional is that Baffert has won the last four Los Alamitos Futurity races ( Dortmund-2014, Mor Spirit-2015, Mastery-2016 and McKinzie-2017. Interesting neither American Pharoah and Justify, his two Triple Crown winners, did not win the Los Alamitos Futurity.
