TWO FILLIES HAVE WON THE HASKELL INVITATIONAL STAKES (GI). NAME THEM.
This weekend Monmouth Park will showcase its premier race the Haskell Invitational Stakes (GI). It was first run in 1968 and won by Balustrade. In the following fifty-one years the race has been won by colts 49 times. The first time a filly conquered the boys in the Haskell came 27 years after the race’s inaugural run when in1995 Hall of Fame jockey Gary Stevens piloted Serena’ Song to victory. Thirteen years later, Calvin Borel for trainer Steve Asmussen finished first with Rachel Alexandra. Both are in the Hall of Fame. Rachel Alexandra in 2016 and Serena’ Song in 2002.
