WHO IS THE ONLY TRIPLE CROWN WINNER TO WIN THE TRAVERS STAKES (I)

Thirteen horses have won the Triple Crown. Some have come back after winning the Kentucky Derby to run in the Travers Stakes (GI) –The Mid-Summer Derby. Only one of them won the Travers Stakes (GI). In 2015 American Pharoah tried, but was defeated by Keen Ice. In 1978 Affirmed finished first, but was disqualified placing Alydar his arch enemy in the Triple Crown in the Winner’s Circle. Thirty-seven years earlier Whirlaway, the fifth Triple Crown winner, won the 1941 Travers Stakes (GI). To this date he is the one to do so.
