11/27/2020

The Hollywood Stakes (GIT) was first run in 1938 on the dirt course at Hollywood Park. It ran there through 2014 when the track was closed and the property sold. Beginning in 2015 it was run at Del Mar in San Diego. CA.  The race had a name change for the ten years from 1938 to 1947 when it was called the Westerner Stakes. In 2014 California Chrome won the race. It was run on the turf and the first time California Chrome had raced on the turf. The only horse to win the Triple Crown and win the Hollywood Stakes was Affirmed in 1978.
