WHAT HORSE BROKE CIGAR'S 16 RACE WIN STREAK?
12/2/2020

Cigar (Palace Music -Solar Slew) was one of the great horses ever. He was foaled in 1990 and raced from 1993 to 1996. It took him two races to break his maiden. Then raced in three more allowance races until he earned his next win. Then the drought began. He raced nine times for his next win, but that win in an Allowance race on October 28, 1994 at Aqueduct began his memorable streak of 16 straight wins. His first grade-one win in that streak was the NYRA Mile which later would become the Cigar Mile. He continued his streak winning 9 more grade-one races before he lost, placing second to Dare and Go, in the 1996 Pacific Classic. Cigar ended his career having run 33 races winning 19. He was in the money all but five of his 33 career races. In the three years he raced he earned just $85 shy of $10,000,000.
