WHAT HORSE IS THE ONLY CANADIAN BRED HORSE TO WIN THE BELMONT STAKES (I)
5/21/2021

In the history of the Belmont Stakes (GI) only 9 horses from countries other than the United States have won the race. England holds the record with five wins ( Saxon-1874, Bowling Brook-1898, Hourless-1917,Johren-1918 and Celtic Ash-1960). Ireland comes in second with three wins (Gallant Man-1957, Cavan-1958 and Go and Go-1990). In 1998 the Triple Crow was on the line as Real Quiet won the first two legs, The Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes. However, a horse that chased him in these two races made amends in the last leg, the Belmont Stakes. In the that classic race Gary Stevens piloted Victory Gallop trained by W. Elliott Walden to the Winner’s Circle for the 1998 Belmont Stakes.
