WHAT JOCKEY HOLDS THE RECORD FOR THE MOST WINS IN THE JAMAICA HANDICAP, PREVIOUS NAME FOR THE BELMONT DERBY?

 The Belmont Derby started in 2014. It became officially the first leg of the Turf Trinity in 2019. Prior to 2014 the race was named the Jamaica Handicap. Some impressive horses have won it. Artie Schiller won it in 2004 and went on to win the Breeders’ Cup (Turf) Mile in 2005. Two horses have one it three times, in fact consecutively---Overdrawn (1941,1942 and 1943) and Pret (1949, 1950 and 1951). Famous jockeys have taken their mounts to the Winner’s Circle –Eddie Arcaro, Jonny Longden and Bill Shoemaker, to name just three. The rider of the 2004 winner, Artie Schiller, holds the current record for number of wins in the Jamaica Handicap. He, also, piloted Allied Forces (1996), Waquoit (1986) and Raja Shark (1984) to victories in that race. The jockey who owns the title for most wins at four in the Jamaica Handicap, now known as the Belmont Derby, is Richard “The Mig” Migliore.
