WHAT IS THE ONLY HORSE TO LOSE THE DIANA STAKES BY DISQUALIFICATION?
7/13/2021

The Diana Stakes is known as one of the premier turf races for fillies and mares in the country. It was inaugurated in 1939 and run on the Saratoga dirt course until 1973. During those early years three six-year-old mares won the race. In 1958 Searching hit the wire first. In 1961 Craftiness had her photo taken in the Winner’s Circle. In 1963 Frimanaha took home the trophy. In the history of the race only one horse lost the race by disqualifications. She returned to win the Diana Stakes one year later. In the 1968 Diana Stakes Gamely a 4-year-old filly was disqualified making Green Glade a Rokeby Stakes owned horse, trained by J. Elliott Burch and ridden by Kenneth Knapp the official winner.
