This year marks the 105th running of the Coaching Club American Oaks Stakes. I was inaugurated in 1917. The race has seen some of the best fillies to grace a racetrack win the race. Two jockeys are tied with the most wins –Mike Smith and Johnny Velazquez each with five. I trainers stands alone with the record of seven wins –Todd Pletcher. That could change this year if the heavy favorite, Malathaat, wins. Malathaat is trained by Pletcher and ridden by Johnny Velasquez. However, only won horse in the history of the race has finished first and been disqualified for interference. It happened in 2015 when the winner was by disqualification Curalina, a horse trained by Pletcher and ridden by Velazquez. The horse that was disqualified in 2015 was I’m a Chatterbox.
