NYS Racing Fan Advisory Council's Report

NYS Racing Fan Advisory Council's Report
8/23/2016

NEW YORK STATE

RACING FAN ADVISORY COUNCIL

Issues Report on Racing in New York

A little more than seven years ago, ThoroFan was invited to testify before New York State Senate Committee on Racing, Gaming and Wagering. Our message was clear. Fans are stakeholders in racing and should have a seat at the table. The Senate and Governor Cuomo listened and the NYS Racing Fan Advisory Council was formed by resolution of the NYS Racing and Wagering Board. Five appointments were made in September 2011 --three by the Governor, one each by the Senate and Assembly racing committees.

The Council has struggled with lack of resources and authority, but, nonetheless, have regularly advised the Gaming Commission (replace for the Racing and Wagering Board) through annual reports. The most recent was issued on July 28, 2016.  READ COUNCIL's REPORT

This year's report focused on nine issues.

1.   Fan Access to Racing Participants

2.   Admission and Reserve Ticket Policy

3.   Annual Saratoga Open House

4.   Morning Public Workouts

5.   Bundling Stakes

6.   Curtailing the Olkahoma Training Track Season

7.   Racetrack Structural Changes

8.   Off-Track Betting

9.   2015: The Better Belmont Stakes

ThoroFan encourages racing fans to read the report and send any comments to  racingfan@gaming.ny.gov.

Our voice is important and the Council is one way for it to be heard. For those wondering how ThoroFan works and what benefits can be gotten from membership, understand this Council is the only one of its kind in the Country.
