 Nominations for the thirteen races are out. There are 210 pre-entries for the thirteen races run over two days. Of course there are number of multiple entries where horses are entered in more than one race? Why?

Running in and well in a Breeders' Cup race has immediate financial value, but perhaps as important is the value in placing in grade one races to breeding value. So owners want their horses in a Breeders' Cup race.

Getting in a Breeders' Cup race is pre-determined by a formula. Each race can only have 14 starters. Seven are selected by a panel of experts. Another seven slots come through two pathways. First horse that have won "Win and You're In" races have priority. The remainder of the seven are selected based on the points they have accumulated in placing in graded stakes races.
