WHO WAS THE LAST FEMALE JOCKEY TO RIDE IN THE KENTUCKY DERBY?
5/4/2018

Twenty horses is the maximum field for the Kentucky Derby. That cap has been in place for several years. What is amazing is that it is rare to find a female jockey riding in the race. In the history of the race, there have been only six female jockeys to ride in it. See chart to the left for list of the six and the years that they rode. They are Diane Crump (1970-15th ), Patti Cooksey (1984- 11th ), Andrea Seefedt (1991- 16th ), Julie Krone (1992- 14th and 1995- 11th ), Rosemary Homeister (2003- 9th) and Rosie Napravnik (2011- 9th and 2013- 5th)

None have won it. However, both Julie Krone and Rosie Naprvnik rode in it twice. The answer to the Trivia Question in this week ThoroFan Newsletter is Rose Napravnik in 2013 on Mylute.
