WHO WAS THE MOST RECENT FILLY TO WIN THE PREAKNESS STAKES?
5/18/2018

The Preakness Stakes (GI) is the second leg of the Triple Crown series which was first run in 1879. Since its first running twelve horse have completed the feat of winning the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes. Also, since its inaugural running five fillies have won the Preakness Stakes, although none have won the Triple Crown. The first winner was Flocarline who won in 1903. Three years later, Whimsical won the race. Rhine Maiden won it in 1915, the year that the filly Regret won the Kentucky Derby. In 1924 Willie Morse won. So, who was the next winner?

Eighty-five years later, the wondrous filly, Rachel Alexandra, won the race in 2009. She was trained by Steve Asmussen and ridden by Calvin Borel. Without a filly entered this year, we will have to wait until next year to see if another filly can win.
