WHAT FEMALE HORSE WAS THE FIRST HORSE TO WIN THE PACIFIC CLASSIC (GI)?

 The 2015 Pacific Classic (GI) was a race for the decade. It was poised to be the first time when a mare would beat the boys in this iconic west coast challenge and prep for the Breeders’ Cup. Ten horses were set for the competition---nine males and one female. The race began with all having and equal chance, so their connections thought. As the field rounded the quarter pole, Beholder made her move, passing the entire field and spurting to the lead as if the rest were frozen. As the saying goes, trainer, Richard Mandella, instructed jockey, Gary Stevens, to “go the lead and improve your position”. That he did so, winning the race by lengths with little effort.
